Try to get them to NOT look at the ball

Silly? Yes.
That is the point. The ball barely moves, and yet the exaggerated movements even fool the cameraman for a second.

Try it. You will like it. Experiment with lots of body motion and very little ball re-direction. If the other team is looking at you ( or the sky or pretty people in the stands), you will have a much easier time getting by them.
