Pro Women's Soccer in '08
The Women's United Soccer Association is planning (hoping, imagining, delusional about) the re-birth of the WUSA in '08. The WUSA ran from 2001-2003 and lost a bit of investor money ($40 million).
The official plan calls for 8 teams:
- Boston (Boston Breakers franchise)
- Los Angeles
- Chicago
- Washington, D.C. (Washington Freedom franchise)
- St. Louis
- New York/New Jersey area (New York Power franchise)
- Dallas
- An 8th franchise to be announced
I hope it works out for them, but my suspicion is that it is still a money "down the drain" proposition. People barely care about the men's game, and I don't see a groundswell of demand for this entertainment product.
